Συμβολή στο Feminist Finance Zine

Λάβαμε σήμερα στο γραφείο μας από το Amsterdam το “Feminist Finance Zine” δημιουργία των Amateur Cities και του Institute of Network Cultures. Ένα περιοδικό που σκοπό έχει να συζητήσει για το πως η σύχρονη οικονομία μπορεί να γίνει πιο ισότιμη, πιο φεμινιστική και πιο βιώσιμη.

Το περιοδικό στο σύνολο του έχει εξαιρετικά ενδιαφέροντα θέματα σε σχέση με τα εναλλακτικά οικονομικά, το blockchain και τη φεμινιστική οπτική πάνω σε αυτά. Μεταξύ άλλων υπάρχει και μια μικρή συμβολή από το μέλος της ομάδας μας, Γρηγόρη Τσαρδανίδη σχετικά με το Blockchain στα πλαίσια και του έργου μας Synergy που σκοπό έχει να δημιουργήσει ένα συνεργατικό οικονομικό εργαλείο!

For me, blockchain is not about giving a technical solution to a social and political problem. The decentralization of data is useful not because it replaces the political or the cultural domain, but because it aligns with it. For me a cooperative culture needs to go along with decentralized data formation. We definitely need assemblies and discourse on the practice of cooperation to achieve the distribution and decentralization of power.

Blockchain is a digital tool that can align the data structure with the political domain. This is not to say that blockchain cannot operate in a purely anarcho-capitalist and individualistic context. We see this with bitcoin. As Zizi Papacharissi noted, it is ‘not the nature of technologies themselves, but rather, the discourse that surrounds them, that guides how these technologies are appropriated by a society.’

Nothing, however, can justify the enormous expenditure of computing power. Different cryptographic procedures have been developed that should prompt us to call proof-of-work’ obsolete. It is completely unacceptable to spend so much electricity just to move capital around with a dubious if not negative social impact, as bitcoin does.
